About Us

Who We Are & Why We Exist

People of Progression is a grassroots, Black-led, culturally specific nonprofit committed to advancing community care, access, and justice for African Americans and all Black diversities—centering their wisdom, brilliance, and lived accomplishments throughout the journey. Based in Menasha, Wisconsin, we walk alongside survivors of domestic and sexual violence, young people, and community members navigating crisis or transition through survivor-centered advocacy, housing and emergency support, mental health and wellness resources, education and financial literacy, healing-centered youth programming, and community-based healing spaces.

Rooted in lived experience and cultural responsiveness, our work removes barriers and expands access so people navigating the margins of injustice have what they need to heal, grow, and rise together across Outagamie and Winnebago Counties.

Our Becoming

People of Progression was born from community coming together. In 2020, Black leaders gathered in a local barbershop to create space for healing, reflection, and mutual support. What began as connection revealed long-standing gaps in care and access—underscoring the need for a Black-led, mission-driven organization rooted in lived experience.

We secured nonprofit status later that year and opened our doors for direct services in 2022. Since then, we have walked alongside more than 650 individuals and families, providing support across housing, employment, legal advocacy, and other critical needs. Our work continues to grow as we respond, evolve, and become—together—rooted in collective care and joy.

Mission

The mission of People of Progression is to use our collective voice, resources, and collaborative partnerships so African Americans and all diversities reach their full potential, lead healthy lives, and live safely within their communities.

Vision

People of Progression envisions a society that honors all Afrodiasporic identities, respects our experiences, and celebrates a thriving Black community as a source of pride and joy.
